Sebastian Agnello now joins Jimmy, Janis and Alan in heaven. Rest in peace to one of Canada's finest protest singers and singer-songwriters in general. He will be missed.
Known to many as the organist of the Lords Of London, Sebastian Agnello left at the height of their fame (right before going on the Ed Sullivan Show), due to feeling it had become to commercial.
Wanting to become more involved in politics and philosophy, he formed a new group called Spuff in 1969-1970, which would be an early outlet for these passions. Spuff ended up recording one album for Mainstream Records (ironically the same label as Nucleus, which contained his ex band mates from the Lords Of London).
After the demise of Spuff in mid 1970, Sebastian Agnello embarked on his solo career. He took the stage name Sebastian, and recorded this lone 45 with Yorkville.
Over the years since he has released a number of albums, singles, and is an interesting figure of the Toronto protest music scene. Enjoy this song from his 1988 album of the same name, with poignant lyrics that may be even more relevant today.
