Wascote EB3 E-bike, Bought 1-13-26, battery DOA, checked adapter output, good @ 32.VDC, battery output at plug: 0,78VDC even after days of charging. However, Sub title, I wish I had done this sooner.
Update: Seller sent a new battery after weeks of 3-way communication, and while I have not yet received it from my brother who is the purchaser, yet since it turned out that we will not need to send the battery back (which was one reason for delaying a road test on the old one), then after achieving a 43 VDC output - with the red rocker arm switch on - after using a low voltage charger (which I presumed was what achieved it), then I I put the cover back on the battery and installed the original battery on the bike.
I also reading pages of the small print manual again to remember what buttons to push on the controller, I held the + button down on the controller for a couple secs (not just press it) and the screen lit up. I soon started pedaling, and then tapped the + button and which results in the motor kicking in until it reaches the chosen speed level (there is no actual throttle, the motor does not start to kick in until you pedal and tap the + button, for which there are 5 speeds, which you must look at the controller to see).
After riding around the block, I then took the battery back upstairs, and it tested (with the red switch on) which read 41.5 VDC, which is to be expected. However, when I plugged in the original charger, once again it read just 0.7 volts (with the red switch on with the charger plugged in).
However, with the low voltage charger plugged in it reads 41.5 VDC with the charger plugged in. And after charging with the original charger, then if I disconnect it my volt meter comes up to 42 volts with the red switch on (when it is off then it reads zero volts).
For when I first received the bike I did not read the manual before I started charging the battery (I use and test rechargeable batteries a lot, what could be different?), yet my conclusion that the battery was dead was mainly based on my testing it on the terminals. But on the manual, in smaller reduced print, it says to turn off the red switch off before charging.
And so in the light of more knowledge, I been having doubts about the conclusion of my testing and thus the validity of my claim that the battery was dead.
While I am quite sure that I tried charging the original battery both ways (with the red switch off , as well as on), yet as regards testing the battery at the terminals or via the voltage indicator lights on the bike, that will not show voltage output unless the red switch is on.
And yet in all my many attempts to charge it I think that I did test the battery with the switch on as well as off, and that there was a difference btwn the tests with the charger that came with it and that of the slow charger that I used, and resulted in up to 43. VDC.
Yet in the voltage testing pics and the video sent to the seller, and when testing it on the bike as shown in the video, while I can see that that at about 8:25 in the video I turned the red power switch on (which indicates that it was off before that), and that I tried the horn while the power switch was on. Yet as concerns turning the bike controller on, I did not hold down the + button on the controller long enough to activate it.
While the seller asked whether the battery got wet, which it did not, I wish they had asked whether my testing was done with the red power switch on. However, I am at fault for not reading the manual and making sure the power switch was off during charging and on during testing, and that I held the controller button down in testing, though I do not recall what I specifically did when I first received the bike as regards testing it.
So it is possible or even likely that somehow the battery was good, or perhaps the slow charger restored it to working order. Live and learn. Welcome to the world of E-bikes.
In response to this, I intent to contact the seller (though I am not the purchaser, and explain that I have doubts about a claim of a defective battery that they replaced, and offer restitution, and see what they say, as I seek to act according to conscience toward God and man.
