Lipedema is a fat disorder that is under-recognized and often misdiagnosed. It is painful, debilitating, and left untreated resulting in immobility.
There is prevalent anti-fat bias in our healthcare system. Story after story of women tell of being marginalized and dismissed by their healthcare providers.
At the age of 60 and experiencing challenging menopause-related symptoms, Catherine Seo was misdiagnosed and, after surgery, experienced severe complications with chronic pain that was leading to immobility. Her surgeon refused to help in any way. In order to find an answer, she traveled throughout Europe, interviewing doctors, experts, and other women who have lipedema.
