Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at the Durabilt Hammerlock Coupling Links for the 3/8" size chain. These have a 7,100 pound working load limit per link and it is for a quantity of two links. Now these coupling links will consist of two U-shaped metal pieces, which are connected with the pin and the retaining collar and allows them to move and rotate easily. Now this one I've already put together and you can see how makes it rotate very easily.
This makes it very versatile and useful for applications where movement is necessary. Also what's nice is these coupling links let you attach safety chains to your hitch quickly and easily. They'll create a more accessible attachment point than the OEM connection loops that are on your hitch. We've noticed that in our shop here that some of the new Ford trucks have loops that are way too small to accept standard size safety chain. So by attaching these to the OEM loops it'll allow you to attach your safety chains to your vehicle a lot easier.
Now, these links can also be used in overhead lifting applications. This one here the application is 3/8" size thick chain or slip hooks with a 3/8" size throat opening. And basically it'll be stamped on the links both pieces 3/8" there, 3/8" there. And what they're measuring is the diameter right here of this portion. That's the 3/8" size.
Now these links also are available in other sizes. Comes in a 5/16" size that has a 4,500 pound working load limit per length, comes in a 1/2" size which has a 12,000 pound working load limit per length, and even a 5/8" size which has an 18,100 pound working load limit per link. All of those we do sell separately on our website and they're usually listed on this product page as a related product. Now, when we mention these are a hammerlock design basically what we mean is when you put these together the pin slides through these two U-shaped pieces and this retaining collar's put right in the middle here. So when you go to slide this through all the way what you'll end up doing, slide it through the links.
And then when it starts to go into that collar you'll need to have a hammer and tap that through so it goes all the way through. And when you do that that retaining collar will lock it into place, just like this one here and you're all ready to go. Now, one thing you do need to remember that when you do want to take these apart you do need to get a punch and a hammer, put the punch on there, hit it with the hammer until it comes out, and then you can take it apart. Now, these parts are a tempered grade 80 steel construction. You can see the links have a nice corrosion resistant red powder coat finish to 'em, few specs. Again, the safe working load limit is 7,100 pounds per link. And it is for a quantity of two coupling links. But that should do it for the review on the Durabilt Hammerlock Coupling Links for the 3/8" size chain..
