STORYLINE :
Afghan President Hamid Karzai met on Monday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss regional security and cross-border terrorism.
Karzai who was welcomed by Singh and Indian President Pratibha Patil, said Afghanistan and India have "long, deep, friendly relations."
He also said that during the past six year India has helped Afghanistan "with generosity and affection."
Karzai's visit to India came amid accusations that members of Pakistan's spy agency helped a militant group bomb India's embassy in Kabul last month, which killed 41 people.
Pakistan officials have denied the charge and have promised to investigate the accusations.
On Sunday Karzai met with Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of a summit of South Asian leaders in Sri Lanka's capital to discuss terrorism and Islamic militancy.
Gilani has said that if Karzai provided any evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the attack on the Indian Embassy, he would order an independent inquiry.
Security forces in both India and Afghanistan are battling Islamic militants that they say operate out of Pakistan, which lies between the two countries.
Indian officials accuse Pakistan of funding and supporting Islamic militants in Indian-controlled Kashmir, while Afghanistan has long accused Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency of backing the Taliban-led insurgency wracking the country.
Pakistan's government denies both claims.
Since Karzai's government took over in Afghanistan at the end of 2001, India has given around 750 (m) million US dollars in aid to help rebuild the country following decades of war.
India has also helped train Afghan security forces, supplied the Afghan national air carrier with two aircraft, and is involved in building roads, schools and hospitals.
One of India's key projects is building a road in south-west of Afghanistan, the road will give the country access to ports in Iran, thus bypassing Pakistani ports.
Another major Indian project is the building of electrical transmission lines and substations to bring electricity from Uzbekistan to Kabul.
