4️⃣ Does offering money to a hotel security guard to allow parking count as bribery in Islam?
Ibrahim from the UK asks if paying a security guard £50 to allow parking in a private lot qualifies as bribery, and what bribery actually means according to Islamic law.
✅ Answers Given by the Sheikh
1️⃣ Online trading of gold, silver, or currencies is NOT permissible in Islam
The Prophet ﷺ taught that gold, silver, and currency transactions must be hand-to-hand and simultaneous.
Online trading does not fulfill these conditions, so buying or selling gold, silver, or currencies online is not allowed.
2️⃣ Trading crude oil, commodities, diamonds, metals, etc., online IS permissible
These items do not fall under the rules of gold, silver, or currency.
You can buy and sell commodities like crude oil, dates, barley, metals, and gemstones online without issue, as long as the payment is made normally.
3️⃣ Investing in Tesla, Microsoft, Google, and similar companies is often NOT halal
When you buy shares, you become a partner in the company.
Most major corporations take loans with interest, invest their money in interest-bearing accounts, or finance their infrastructure using ribaa.
This means a Muslim shareholder indirectly benefits from interest-based transactions, which makes investing in such companies impermissible.
4️⃣ Paying a security guard privately for parking IS considered bribery
If the guard takes the money for himself and not for the hotel, and if he does not own the property, the payment is considered a bribe.
A bribe is when money is given to someone in authority to overlook rules or give unfair advantage.
This falls under the major sin mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ:
“Allah curses the one who gives a bribe and the one who takes it.”
