it’s been a dream seeing all the hard work our beautiful team has put into creating my storyboard into a reality. a part of my coming of age story. with this song, i’m consoling my younger self; before i was old enough to attend school, i would spend my time singing on korean karaoke machines in a restaurant my dad worked at. i’d sit in a dark room, singing along and looking wide-eyed at musicians performing on the tv screen. this was my safe space. through this, i would imagine and dream of a place i could disappear away from pain and my parents’ worries. although this video portrays the feeling of abandonment, it shows reconciliation as i find my path of life with the love i’ve found through music and the beautiful cultures, communities surrounding it. irene plays a character who embodies my inner child but also the everlasting energy of my childhood best friend, who was one of the first people to teach me how to accept love for myself. needless to say, i’m still learning and growing. i love you, no matter what.
