Understanding the physiology of a normal menstrual cycle is essential for every woman’s reproductive health. In this video, we explain the phases of the menstrual cycle day by day, including the menstrual phase, proliferative phase, ovulation phase, and luteal phase in a simple and medical yet easy-to-understand format.
🩸 Phase 1: Menstrual Phase (Days 1–5)
Day 1 marks the start of periods. During this menstrual phase, the uterine lining sheds while new ovarian follicles begin developing.
🌸 Phase 2: Proliferative / Growth Phase (Days 6–13)
Estrogen levels rise, and the endometrium rebuilds. One dominant follicle matures in the ovary, preparing for ovulation.
🥚 Phase 3: Ovulation (Day 14)
Ovulation occurs mid-cycle. The ovary releases an egg, and the uterine lining becomes thick for possible implantation.
🌼 Phase 4: Luteal / Secretory Phase (Days 15–28)
The corpus luteum produces progesterone, making the lining nutrient-rich. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, hormone levels drop, leading to the next menstrual cycle.
