Dominus 2007 US Trophy Wine Review

Описание: Dominus is situated at the Napanook vineyard, which is located at the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains on the west side of the Napa Valley. It is reputed to be the place where George Yount (Yountville was named after him) planted the first vines in the Napa Valley in 1838. The estate was purchased by the owners of Ingenook winery in 1946. When the owner passed away, his daughter began a partnership with Christian Moueix in 1982 and by 1995, Christian began the sole owner of the estate in 1995. Christian is famous as being the manager of renowned Bordeaux estates like Chateau Petrus and Trotonoy.

Dominus 2018 was recently named the No.1 wine of 2021 by Wine Spectator.

The winery's first vintage was 1983. Christian named the estate Dominus or lord of the estate in Latin to show his commitment to the land. The estate is about 42 hectares (103 acres) and is planted with 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot vines. The wine was originally created/aged at Rombaeur winery but in 1997, the estate built its own winery with stone filled gabions.

The 2007 vintage was a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. About 5000 cases of the wine was produced. The wine was aged in 40% new oak barrels.

The current vintage of Dominus (2016) in our B.C. Liquor Stores is priced at $500 per bottle. Wine Spectator rating of the wine I am reviewing Dominus 2007) is 88 pts.
