Is Canada in a recession? Carney admits there's “weakness" in Canadian economy

These are the prime minister’s first public comments about the state of the economy since a Statistics Canada report indicated two consecutive quarters of economic decline.

Carney said his government’s economic plan is “settling in” and that “the data would be uneven” as its actions to reduce immigration and government spending are felt.
The prime minister said there are positive signs in the latest economic report, including increased business investment.

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre hammered the prime minister shortly after, accusing him of avoiding, what he said was a “yes or no” question. Poilievre said that “real people are hurting” and deserve a clear answer on the state of the economy.
