DMK leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin sharply targeted the newly formed TVK government in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, urging CM Joseph Vijay to run a "real government" and not an "Instagram Reels government."
The remark was made during the floor test debate held on May 13, shortly before the Vijay-led government won the confidence vote with support from 144 MLAs.
Criticising TVK's style of politics, Udhayanidhi accused the government of relying heavily on social media optics, memes and film-style campaigning instead of serious governance.
He also questioned TVK's political mandate, claiming that nearly 65% of voters did not vote for the party despite it coming to power through alliance support.
The DMK leader further accused TVK of compromising on its earlier political positions by accepting support from leaders and factions it had previously criticised during the election campaign.
Udhayanidhi also urged the new government to continue key welfare schemes introduced during the previous DMK administration, including women's financial assistance, free bus travel for women and school breakfast schemes.
The comments triggered intense exchanges in the Assembly and highlighted the growing political confrontation between the DMK opposition and Vijay's newly formed government.
TVK later defended its mandate, pointing to its vote share and alliance backing while accusing DMK of refusing to accept defeat.
