The Grand Canyon's North Rim offers a far different experience than the more popular South Rim. Nestled in the pines at an elevation of 8,000 feet—1,000 feet higher than the South Rim—the north side is subject to harsh winters, and thus is only open from May 15 to October 15 every year.
This is a hiker's perspective of the famed North Kaibab Trail, which links both rims by connecting to the Bright Angel or South Kaibab trails, but only after meandering 14 spectacular and sometimes grueling miles to the Colorado River.
If you're planning a Rim-to-Rim, you'll either start or finish here.
This is what you need to know.
