One of the oldest suspension bridges in the world, Punakha Suspension Bridge in Bhutan was believed to be built by the Buddhist Monk Thangtong Gyalpo . This bridge is built above Po Chhu River. (Male River ) The bridge connects the dzong with the villages on the other bank of the Po Chhu river.
Punakha Dzong Suspension Bridge is an important part of the architectural history of Bhutan, which connects the villages of Shengana, Samdingkha and Wangkha. This 160 metres suspension bridge is the longest in Bhutan. This bridge relies on cables anchored to massive cement blocks on the banks. The bridge does have some inbuilt flexibility that makes it swing in strong winds, This is due to the stabilizing cables that taper off on both ends of the bridge. The deck is made of solid planks of wood nested in the deck truss.
This bridge provides a good view of the river and valley with the mountain as background.
The real adventure is walking across the bridge, as there isn’t anything interesting across the other side of the bridge. Pleasant enough walk, It takes around 15 min to cross the whole bridge

There is a small shop at other end where you can enjoy momos, icecreams or much more
