Hundsgugel (German: hundsgugel - dog hood) is a type of helmet of the Bacinet type with a strongly conical visor elongated forward.
This form of visor increased its surface area, which made it possible to supply it with many ventilation holes. This greatly facilitated the warrior's breathing. Such holes were often located only on the right side of the helmet, since in the equestrian battle with spears, the left half of the head was primarily endangered. The conical shape and smoothness of the left side of the visor helped the tip of the enemy spear slip even with a powerful blow. The helmet was used by European chivalry in the XIV-XV centuries.
