My AML Timeline
Aug 11
• Mild fever (100–101°F)
Aug 12–14
• Persistent high fever (101–103°F)
Aug 15
• Early morning fever spiked to 104°F
• Consulted doctor over phone; medicines prescribed
• Blood sample collected at home
• Test results showed platelet count at 20,000
• Doctor flagged it as an emergency (suspected Dengue) and advised immediate hospitalization
• Admitted to hospital
• Platelet recovery protocol initiated
• Multiple tests conducted in parallel
Aug 16
• Abnormal cells detected in blood
• Strong suspicion of blood cancer
Aug 19
• Emergency transfer to a larger hospital
• Advanced tests revealed only 6% of bone marrow functioning
• 94% compromised by abnormal (cancerous) cells
• Family finally told me the diagnosis:
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
• Reality hit hard—unavoidable and overwhelming
Treatment Phase
Aug 20
• Treatment began immediately
• First round of chemotherapy started (4 days)
• Informed that treatment would continue for ~3 weeks
Sept 10
• Discharged from hospital
Sept 30
• Second round of chemotherapy planned
• Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) postponed due to severe ulcers
• Chemotherapy administered for 5 days
Transplant Phase
Oct 22 (My Birthday)
• Readmitted to hospital for transplant preparation
• High-dose chemotherapy and radiation therapy started
• Goal: completely wipe out existing bone marrow
Oct 29
• Bone Marrow Transplant performed
• Entered 21 days of strict isolation
• Zero contact with the outside world
Current Phase (hopeful, calm)
Nov 19
• Discharged from hospital
• Entered 100-day home isolation phase
• Extreme precautions, minimal human contact
• Currently ongoing — Day 84
