He Bought Fake Plates for $250, Now He’s Facing a Felony

On Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1100 hours, Officers were traveling westbound when they observed a grey Chevrolet Malibu in front of me displaying a blue temporary tag that was barely visible behind a dark tinted license plate cover. Officers approached the vehicle on the passenger side and made contact with the driver, identified as Jesus Castellano. He was able to provide his driver's license from Puerto Rico but was only able to understand and respond in limited English.

While speaking with Jesus, I asked for his registration, and he handed me a yellow registration card. This registration returned to tag… that did not match the blue tag displayed on the vehicle.. Both tags were not properly displayed. The blue tag was in a dark license plate cover, which I was not able to read until I looked through the rear windshield.

Jesus informed me that he got the tag through a friend who got it from a dealer. When I asked how much he paid for the tag, he informed me $250. I showed him his name and address . I then searched him incident to arrest for weapons and contraband; none were found. That tag was removed and an identical tag was located underneath it. All tags were removed and the vehicle was impounded by Willard's towing.

He was also cited for Affixing a license plate to concealing identity of vehicle and canceled registration and Obstructed or altered registration,
Improper use of registration,Unlawful display of registration. He was then released from the scene after I had Corporal Contreras explain his citations and mandatory court date to him.

Did Jesus really think he'd get away driving around with three fake license plates stacked on each other?
