The X Family redesign began with a simple but critical question: What does the consumer truly need from this experience?
In this episode of HandCrafted: The Art of Boat Building, we go behind the scenes of the X Family redesign with two of the people closest to its creation: Brendan Harris, Product Marketing Manager, and Nathan Miklo, Industrial Designer at MasterCraft.
Brendan brings the perspective of someone translating insight into direction, using data, feedback, and real-world input to help shape the charter. Nathan approaches the same challenge from the physical side of the boat, where design decisions show up in the details you touch without thinking about them: where your arm naturally rests, how a space feels when you sit down, how the boat responds to you instead of asking you to adjust to it.
What comes through isn’t a list of features or a single moment of inspiration. It’s a process built on intent—small decisions layered on top of one another, each one shaping how the boat is experienced the first time, and every time after.
And when you step back, that’s what HandCrafted really points to. Open up a MasterCraft and pull back the layers, and you don’t just see how it’s built; you see the people behind it. The designers, engineers, and builders who care deeply about the work in front of them, and about the moments this work makes possible once the boat leaves the factory.
Every detail is there for a reason.
And together, they tell the story.
This is MasterCraft HandCrafted.
