Описание: Cornwall looks back on a rich industrial past and is the poorest region of the British Island today. Of the once important mining industry, there are only remnants like the Geevor Tin Mine. It is considered the largest preserved mine complex in the United Kingdom.

You can see compressors that were used to provide the compressed air for the operation of the hammer drills and other tools, winches, and fans. Two machine halls with original preserved equipment impressively show the technological development of the mining industry.

Until the end of the 19th century, Cornwall provided more than half of the world's demand for tin. After the discovery that the alloy Bronze is formed from tin and copper, Great Britain, and especially the Cornish region from Lands End to the banks of Tamar, became the market leader for tin and copper.

You can see the treadmills, where after extraction the crushed ore rock was transported, different stations where the separation from dead rock took place, the "vibrating tables" and water was used in the final rinse. In the mills the raw material was ground into powder.

In the narrow and low corridors of the Mexico mine you can experience the harsh conditions under which the miners once worked.

It all started with tin and an era ended with tin - the Geevor tin mine closed down in 1991. Only the Industrial Museum remains as a legacy.
