Hello everyone,
In this video I take a first look at an interesting Laser Engraver from AlgoLaser, the DIY Kit Mk. 2.
I'm regularly asked if I'd like to look at laser machines, and I usually decline unless, as in this case the machine offers something new.
This laser machine is pitched as being ideal for those who are new to working with a laser machine.
I liked the kit format of the printer, it wasn't at all difficult to assemble and the instructions are especially detailed and easy to follow.
By far the standout feature is the quality of the user interface and the intuitive nature of the touchscreen control panel. This feels like a high-end feature on a budget machine and it works perfectly. It's especially easy to use the machine without a computer attached and the simplified controls are very easy to understand.
But the single feature which I think will really appeal to viewers of the channel is that the machine's cutting area can be doubled with the addition of a low cost extra kit of parts.
These were on sale just before Christmas '24 for £182, and the price has risen since but is likely to be discounted again soon as is often the case with machines of this type. So, an 800x400mm machine for less than £300 is a real possibility which seems like good value to me.
In part 2 I will disassemble the machine and rebuild it to it's larger format and explore a variety of projects and materials.
Since filming this video I've been playing with the machine some more, and have dialled the settings in nicely. It certainly doesn't cut as quickly as some of my more powerful machines (nor should it), but the quality of the cuts is excellent. I'll show them, and the settings I've used in Part 2.
I'm sorry to be showing yet another machine rather than some modelling this time, but I think it's a genuinely interesting proposition. It's certainly been fun to play with. I wish my other machines had the same touch screen control.
Thanks for watching,
James
