MAL Favorite Anime Characters Proportional To Viewers

Описание: What are people's favorite anime characters, when we take in consideration the number of viewers?

DATA TAKEN ON 25 AND 26 OF JANUARY OF 2021 - The numbers are probably already different right now, they change a lot and FAST.

The character had to make at least into the top 1000 to make into this list. I also only considered Japanese media (so, not Chinese or Korean media, I believe these make for interesting videos on the their on in the future, maybe - but anyway, there were only one or two characters that got cut because of this rule).

The series I write under the character name is the most popular media series that the character has appeared, be it anime or manga. However, when there was an anime, it would ALWAYS be the anime. This is even true for Berserk, that even with massive 200k manga readers, it still doesn't surpass the 270k people that completed the anime. The same for Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita), which have a relatively well known manga that 20k people have read, but still isn't more than the 28k that watched the 1993 OVA.

For anime or manga that are still ongoing, I used the number of "watching"/"reading" instead of "completed".

I hope it doesn't unsettle you too much that the Japanese names are written in the western way (name before surname). It sure did disturbed me, lol. But I had to do it for the sake of consistency and using the same name pattern from MAL. I believe that it is considered the correct way to write japanese names on western media anyway? (i.e. Hideo Kojima, Satoru Iwata, Yoko Shimomura, etc.)

One could argue that Gintoki got so high because Gintama is 200 episode long and mostly episodic so people will favorite him even without finishing the anime - and I won't disagree. However, even if we sum Gintama's "completed"(225k) with "watching"(147k) AND "on-hold"(85k) to make the calculation, he would STILL have enough % to be on the top 5. I think that some characters may have been benefited by the way the calculation was made (it's hard to make something perfect) but I believe it won't have made a really great difference overall on the list.

VAGABOND (Miyamoto Musashi):
This is an unique case because it's a manga-only character that's on a manga on extended hiatus since 2015. This means that, even though technically it's "ongoing", there's still 24k people that marked the work as "completed", and there's 53k with it marked as "reading". This means that there's at least 24k people that for sure read all the manga, but there's no way to say how much of the 53k peole "reading" actually completed it and left on "reading". So I decided to make the average from the worst-case scenario (24k) to the best-case scenario (everybody that's "reading" read everything - 24k+53k = 77k). The average from 24k and 77k, which is ~51k, is the number I considered to make the calculation.
