LONG BEACH - The Long Beach Fire Department along with Long Beach CERT program volunteers (Community Emergency Response Team) and the Long Beach Search and Rescue team went door to door Monday night in the low lying Peninsula neighborhood warning residents of Tuesday's and Wednesday's high tide danger. The high tide in conjunction with the high swells from hurricane Marie could lead to street flooding in the area. According to LBFD, the high tide/high swell danger is expected to peak Tuesday at 10:00 AM and then again Wednesday night at 6:00 PM. The Peninsula area of Long Beach is prone to flooding especially when high tides and high swells breech the sand berms erected by the city. A similar breech in March flooded ten blocks of the neighborhood before the berm could be restored. Long Beach Fire PIO Jake Heflin (on camera) stated that the city has taken extra persuasions in anticipation of the coming storm. Heflin stated that the berms are "higher, deeper and thicker than in the past" and that personnel will be monitoring the situation "around the clock".
