upon further reflection, listening to this video, i want to add that misunderstanding occurs too when another party intends to cause harm. i've been in situations before where a close friend twisted my words, unable to face the reality of the situation. this was something very hurtful. it destabilizes the relationship. i didn't understand this at the time.
coming from a family that performed many of these destabilizing moves, it primed me to accept many unhealthy relations and insecure ways of relating. i've been waiting for the gavel to drop much of my life, in fear of, expecting, things to quickly turn sideways. this is no way to live.
the truth is--i am understood and i am able to be understood. i haven't been misunderstood by people. people have done wrong to me by not taking the time to understand. i will no longer embrace the self-diminishing sense-of-self which says, "i am misunderstood".
