The mothers helping others, while living with HIV themselves

Описание: Millicent is a true unsung hero who is dedicated to changing lives in her community. A busy mother of four, she lives in a township outside of Cape Town, South Africa. After being diagnosed with HIV in her late teens and left without treatment or support, she feared she wouldn’t live to see her children grow up. Millicent was determined that nobody should experience what she had. Now, every day she straps on a backpack and goes door-to-door visiting households to deliver simple but vital health services to those who need them most. She is employed as a community health worker for mothers2mothers – an incredible organisation funded by Comic Relief, which trains and employs women living with HIV to bring full health services, support and advice to hard-to-reach communities across Africa. Since they’ve started, women like Millicent have helped keep over three million people alive. Once afraid that her diagnosis would mean the end of her life, Millicent is now happy and hopeful for her future, can support her family, and dreams of seeing an HIV free generation.
