• People:
• Traditionally, Bedouins and Tuaregs live here.
• Wear loose clothes and head coverings to protect from sun and sand.
• Live a nomadic life — rear camels, goats, and sheep.
• Settlements are now growing near oases and in areas with oil and mineral resources.
• Modern cities like Cairo and oil-rich towns are developing.
2. The Cold Desert: Ladakh (India)
• Location: Lies in the eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir in the Himalayas.
• Climate: Very cold and dry; snow instead of rain; summer is short and not very hot.
• Vegetation: Very little; mosses and lichens at higher altitudes.
• People:
• Life is tough due to harsh climate.
• Agriculture is possible during summer (barley, potatoes, etc.).
• People rear yak, sheep, and goats for milk, wool (like Pashmina), and meat.
• Leh is the main town.
• Rich culture influenced by Buddhism.
