Before Selma, before Montgomery, there was Farmville, where young people made history. Join Cameron Patterson, Executive Director of the Robert Russa Moton Museum (Moton) as he shares a story about the students of Prince Edward County, Virginia who helped to expand the meaning of equality for all. The Moton story highlights the walk-out generation, a group of students who walked out of their school and into history on April 23, 1951. This program will highlight the lock-out generation of students, who were impacted when public schools closed in 1959 in Prince Edward County, Virginia for five years. Both generations of students proved brave, creative, and resilient in their pursuit of justice in equality.
