Spend a warm winter day with us here at 113 as we get back to work on the shanty, the timber frame barn, and the man cave trim—using lumber milled right here on our pre 1911 Frick sawmill. With temperatures finally up in the mid 40s, we’re able to jump back into outdoor projects, clean up the shanty workspace, and start ripping and planing boards for new farmhouse style millwork.
You’ll see how we cut, trim, and plane our home sawn ash/hickory boards to build simple farmhouse trim for the basement man cave, talk about identifying wood species, and share our philosophy of using everything we mill—whether it becomes cabinetry, a cutting board, or firewood to heat the house.
Meanwhile, Joy prepares an incredible Valentine’s Day meal—lamb chops, homemade crème brulé, and even a gourmet “snack lunch”—because around here there’s always something going on, whether in the workshop or in the kitchen. We even put out table scraps for the foxes that visit our property at night, something we enjoy watching on the trail camera.
If you enjoy sawmill work, timber framing, homestead renovations, barn restoration, woodworking with your own lumber, or just following the ongoing journey of building a life one project at a time—you’re in the right place. Thanks for joining us as we continue turning this property into a working homestead, one board and one beam at a time.
Every piece of lumber has a story. Thanks for watching ours.
