Tornado survivors begin recovery cleanup

Описание: Parts of Florence and Salado Texas are destroyed after a string of tornadoes rocked the area leaving many devastated Tuesday evening.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Bell County Judge David Blackburn said 23 people were injured, 12 were transported and one remains in critical condition. Officials say their main priority is clearing debris and restoring power.

CBS Austin went back out to the area to see how the community is handling the aftermath. Homes have been flattened to the ground and now many are trying to repair and rebuild what the storm left behind.

“It was pretty terrifying. We weren't able to stay there because everything was coming at us,” said tornado survivor Sophia Palmer.

Memories are what 20-year-old Sophia Palmer and her boyfriend are left with after tornadoes ripped through their home leaving them with just the clothes on their backs.

“I’m expecting my first little boy on August 30. We were getting the nursery set up with all the cute little onesies and stuff and it was really upsetting to see everything all blown around and we were really excited,” she said.
