Making a Deep Connection with an Animal Who Doesn’t Know You

This week, we share different ways you can make a shy or fearful animal comfortable immediately.
Leah shared a wonderful story about how her student, Laureli, used the Green Tara Mantra (https://www.dropbox.com/s/zqb21r5cbls...) to not only calm a very scared parrot that she had just met, but also the other 100 parrots around him who had been talking and shriekiing. During the session - they all went quiet!
It was a beautiful testament to how animals respond when we act not as a “healer” but as a compassionate, loving being that wants to support that animal in a peaceful space.

Jamie shared how she had the same experience as Laureli with the cockatoos at Windy’s Ranch and Rescue and Kelly shared her experience of going into a noisy dog kennel at the shelter and having the dogs settle and quiet one by one.
Our practice is really magical when it comes to bringing peace and comfort to stressed animals.
Leah, Jamie and Kelly, offered the following tips you can use to have the same results:
Chanting. If you are meeting an animal for the first time, chant softly to yourself. The energy will still be big and will go out into the room around you but you won’t scare the animal with your voice.
Be present and mindful. You don’t necessarily have to be meditating with an animal - your quiet presence can help calm stressed animals. Always remember to focus on love and peace and not on what’s wrong.
Keep your focus inward and not outward. Another reason why chanting is helpful - it keeps us focused on ourselves and not the animals.
Be mindful of your body language. If you are sitting with a new, stressed and/or traumatized animal be sure to sit away from them with your body facing sideways and not head on. This will put your body in a more passive and non-dominant position.
