Ardfry Castle was erected around 1770 by Joseph Blake, a member of the illustrious Blake family who subsequently became Lord Wallscourt.
Ardfry was originally intended to be a two-story house with nine bays, but it was later modified in 1826 to include gothic features and became connected to a medieval castle on the lands.
The Wallscourt name became associated with the house where the Wallscourts lived until the fourth Earl's second wife lost away the whole family fortune. She allegedly sold the lead from every roof on the estate in order to fund her gambling addiction.
The mansion was demolished, and the Wallscourt title became extinct in 1922. However, three of the fourth Earl's grandchildren were successful in formally recovering the house in 1950. Locals referred to them as the "three gay mice" who resided in an outhouse near the ruins.
Ardfry House was later utilized in the Paul Newman film The Mackintosh Man, when it was briefly reconstructed and then burned down, destroying many of the house's internal features.
