Notes on this album:
Well, here it is: the long-awaited Ramones tribute album from True Red.
Oh, you weren’t waiting for it? Lord knows I was!
See, way back in 2014, I got the idea to cover this album for its 40th anniversary in 2016. While I was able to lay down some tracks back then, it ultimately got shelved due to life getting hectic in every aspect. I largely took ten years off from making music of any kind at all. However, in recent years, things have gotten better. Life is nicer. And I never stopped wanting to get back to music. This album was always on my mind.
One night in late April 2024, I decided to break out my old interface to try and record something. To my horror, it was dying. I thought an audio interface would either be living/usable or dead/broken. Not the case. It would power up and give me a sad and very audible whine. Totally unusable. The following day, I went out and acquired a new interface, learned its bells and whistles, and in the days after, started tracking vocals for this album. The time was right. It was 2024. This album that had failed to materialize for the Ramones’ 40th anniversary album had to happen for the 50th, so I got back to work on it.
The guitars, bass, and drum tracks were all laid down in Winter, late 2014, early 2015. The vocals were recorded in late Spring 2024 and over the Summer of 2024. The mixing and mastering were done from Summer 2024 up to now when I write this, in early Autumn 2024.
I am very proud of what I have accomplished with this recording. Call it imposter syndrome, if you will, but I’ve never felt like a singer – just a guy who puts the words into the mic. I’ve never felt like a guitarist – just a guy who makes guitars make the sounds I need them to make. And I’ve certainly never felt like a producer – just a guy who records it and tries to make the end result aurally palatable. Maybe these thoughts are simultaneously incorrect and spot on. What I do know is that I worked hard on it, had fun with it, and I hope that Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy would be proud.
