Penn Rail Videos presents you two unique Nathan Airchime horns being used at the West Chester Railroad.
The first horn is a one-of-a-kind. This is a Nathan "P5-3L" It is an old cast Nathan Airchime P5 with the 3 bell board out. The bell is even specially stamped "3L" on it. The 3L bell on this Nathan gives it a very smooth yet haunting sound. In our opinion, probably one of the best Nathan P horns we've ever heard.
The second horn isn't exactly unique, but you don't hear it at most other places except for Class I railroads. This is the Nathan K5LLA which is found on most EMD SD70ACe and M-2 locomotives. Hearing these horns on a manual valve rather than a solenoid (button) valve gives them a slightly different sound. It is also in the configuration that is most commonly found on the modern engines, with the 1L bell reversed.
We'll catch the train powered by ALCO (MLW) C424 #4230 at two different locations for each horn.
Happy Birthday Ken.
