Today is Monday, February 15, 2021, and Houston is a frozen mess! I'm making the best of a bad situation by taking my Ryker out for a spin. Skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes. #canam #ryker #texasfreeze
We lost power in the middle of the night and we don't know if or when it will return. I woke up to a brisk 46 degrees... INDOORS! The outside temperature this morning is 17°F (-8°C) with a wind chill of -24°F (-31°C). That's not a big deal for northern states, but Houston is not equipped to deal with the cold. No road crews to salt/sand the roads, power grid failures, etc... it's a mess!
For cases like this, I think the original Kenda all-season tire would probably perform better than this Yokohama summer radial that I have on the rear of my Ryker Rally. The interesting lesson that I learned from today's fun was this: the Can-Am stability control (traction nanny) doesn't know how to cope with the complete lack of traction on the rear tire under deceleration. The bike slides sideways every time under deceleration, so you need to modulate the throttle and brakes carefully to coordinate the deceleration in a straight line.
Time indexes:

2:11 My son decided to take the Honda CRF150F out on the ice
3:46 Full throttle and only moving 6 MPH!
5:10 Sit and spin! My boots have more traction, pushing to start moving!
8:00 ABS test #1
9:30 Deceleration causes the rear wheel to slide
11:00 Proof that Texas drivers don't know how to drive in the ice & snow!
13:28 Arriving at Wal-Mart to get milk & eggs
16:45 ABS test #2
19:40 GoPro batteries don't like this cold weather
