Pedestrian safety improvements are planned for an east Las Vegas valley crosswalk where a 17-year-old was killed in a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash, though state officials say the upgrades remain several years away.
Eric Estrada, 17, was struck by an RV shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday while walking in a marked crosswalk at Lake Mead Boulevard and North Lamont Street, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Police identified 65-year-old Mark Clayton as the suspect driver. He was arrested and faces charges including DUI resulting in death, reckless driving, and failure to stop at the scene of a crash. Police also accuse him of driving a stolen vehicle.
