It's mid-May and you know what that means. It's time to make our way back to the town of Bryson City to visit the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. For the first time in a long time, Railfest has returned to the Smokies, and the main attraction is the return of GSMR's steam locomotive #1702. For three days, 1702 would power the railroads Nantahala Gorge excursions, and as per usual she put on quite a show.

*As per yearly tradition, 1702 has received a cosmetic change. Although this time, it's major. The Southern Railway inspired look is finally complete with even a little spike of something extra. Some of the things they added include the following:
White walls and white trim
Silver smokebox and firebox
Black negative on the main rod
Southern inspired logos on the cab windows
A brand-new blast nozzle (making the stack have a lot more bass)
This is the best 1702 has ever looked.

*And another tradition that was rather expected. 1702 has a guest whistle. A Rizzoli Locomotive Works Nathan 6 chime (the same one that was used at Tweetsie Railroad earlier this year).
