I take you with me to the three‑day celebrations marking the arrival of Hōkūleʻa for its 40th anniversary in Waitangi. As an invited guest I gained exclusive access and recorded moments that many professional TV crews missed: intimate ceremonies, traditional dances, the musical instruments of the Māori and Hawaiians, and interviews explaining the background of the rituals. Forty years ago the Hawaiians were recognized as the sixth Māori tribe of the region — you can see and feel that historic connection in this video.
