I want to apologise for comments I made to an individual that have had a wider impact on the sickle cell community. Those comments were insensitive, distasteful, and deeply hurtful to that individual and to everyone who has heard them.
This is especially disappointing to the people and organisations I have supported in the past. As someone who has advocated for the sickle cell community and donated blood, I understand why these comments make the situation even more hurtful, and for that I am truly sorry.
There are no “buts” and no context that justifies what I said. It doesn’t matter why it was said the truth is simple, I should never have said it!
To the content creators who have spoken about this and to those asking me to respond or “clap back,” I won’t be doing that. I was wrong. People are entitled to feel hurt and disappointed by what I said.
This is not a statement to defend myself it is an apology. I take full accountability for my words. I’m sorry to those I hurt and to those I let down. I will learn from this and work to do better.
