Описание: Constrained with inadequacies in healthcare in the pandemic, Tata decided to set up a hospital in Kasaragod. It came up with its proposal to construct a state-of-the-art Covid19-care hospital. The government gave a five-acre land in Thekkil in Chemnad panchayat for this. A 20-member team of engineers and technicians of Tata group supervised the project. They began the project by mid-April. The facilities are made in as many as 128 special containers. These containers from Tata Steel are arranged in three blocks. Each container, fully air-conditioned, has five isolation beds with all modern healthcare facilities. The hospital was expected to give the much-needed boost to the medical care facilities for Covid19 treatment in the district. The 551-bedded hospital was built at a cost of 15 crores. The hospital infrastructure was all set up by early September. Tata handed over the property to the district administration on September 9. Tata executed its project in five months. But it needed medical staff to run. The Government was supposed to appoint doctors, nurses and para-medical staff. But nothing much happened. The hospital, however, started functioning from Wednesday (October 28) It has just two doctors and less than a dozen medical staff. The health department now says the hospital will cater 50 patients only. Government has said the hospital will have 191 staff and recruitment is underway. But the health department was soft-pedalling the appointments to this Covid-speciality hospital.
