Bugatti under the skin - the engineering that made them winners

Описание: The Bugatti Type 35 was arguably the most successful racing car of all time, a work of art, and a robust piece of engineering able to survive long distance racing on poor surfaces which the survivors can and still do today.

This film looks at the engineering under the skin, mostly from when I visited the Bugatti Trust based at the Prescott Hill climb. As well as complete cars and a car with the body removed they have components, some sectioned to reveal secrets within.

My Austin Special

I built my special in a year in the early 90s, had it on the road a few years including some races and hillclimbs. With family and career it got parked. The last few years as an empty nester I've been working on it as and when I can. The body tub is going to the son of my late friend who helped me build it to help get his project done. The green frame mounts a Reliant engine and peddle box. To make more legroom the body has been moved up and back, more knee room under a raised scuttle, feet go below chassis level. Packaging is tight. We've tried to strike a balance between it staying "the same car" and necessary changes and improvements. I never quite liked the angle of the tail. We preferred the original radiator cowl but never made it strong enough or got that bonnet fitting well. Indicators I now think are essential.

Thankyou to Junkyard Tom for getting me to film stuff at all. Alas me then doing an edit has been beyond me to this point so I've started these "one take phone cam updates" as something achievable. Done beats perfect. Hopefully in time they'll be a more polished version with the "live action" making footage.
