When Andrew Kayiira, Yoweri Museveni and other Ugandan patriots launched a guerilla war against the UPC government, President Milton Obote and his deputy Paulo Muwanga forgot that they had fought alongside Museveni and Kayira to defeat Idi Amin in 1979.
For starting UFM, Kayiira became a Muhangaza, a tribe in Tanzania, while Museveni became a Rwandese immediately after promising war to anyone rigging the 1980 elections. This “denial of citizenship” did not defeat the freedom fighters and the rest is history. But 35 years after the departure of the Obote government in 1985, some 35-year-old anti-NRM politicians have exhumed the Obote weapon as we near the 2021 elections.
Early in March 1986, Museveni delivered a lecture to cadre-trainees at the NRM School of Political Education at Namugongo, to which OwanaPaedia gives you a useful glimpse.
