California Will Use Gerrymandered Map in 2026

It’s official: we’re in America’s Gerrymander Era. The Supreme Court just ruled that California can use its voter-approved, VERY gerrymandered map in the upcoming midterms. This comes after it allowed Texas to use an even more-gerrymandered map. California Republicans tried to get it blocked by saying the map was based on race, not partisan politics.

Which is an important distinction because as lame as it is, gerrymandering based on politics is legal. Justice Alito saw through the argument and wrote: "Texas adopted the first new map, then California responded with its own map for the stated purpose of counteracting what Texas had done."

And pointed out that both maps were done for “partisan advantage, pure and simple.” Flat out -- no one should like these twisted maps, but Republicans tore up the rules of the game when it started doing it to try and secure the 2026 midterms. California and other states are just responding rather than playing a rigged game.

With how Trump and Republicans are polling right now, it’s not surprising they want to essentially cheat at the ballot box.
