Before you rent an apartment, make sure you know these 3 things.
1.Take a final walkthrough, pictures, and recordings of the unit you’ll be moving into before signing the lease. Sometimes the previous tenant’s damages are still there and when you move out, your landlord will charge you through your security deposit.
2.For the average person, it’s better to pro rate the free month because you will consistently save $100-200 a month instead of saving a lump sum up front which the average person will just spend. If you are financially disciplined though, take the lump sum up front.
3.Before you move out, make sure to give your landlord your forwarding address to send your security deposit too. If you don’t it can get delayed and in some cases not even sent back b/c legally you have to give your forwarding address or else you won’t be able to do anything if they decide not to give it back.
