STORYLINE:
An AP video showed an Israeli airstrike Wednesday evening on a tent camp sheltering displaced Palestinians west of Gaza City.

The displaced Palestinians in the Anssar camp received phone calls from what they said were Israeli military personnel, ordering them to evacuate the area within five minutes.

“We had our Iftar, and then we prayed,” said Ibtessal al-Shanbary, one of the tent camp residents who carried a backpack, which had whatever little belongings she managed to hastily collect from her tent. “They called us and told us to evacuate. We cannot breathe. And now they set our tents on fire. Where can we go?”

The tent camp was struck three times; the first two were warning strikes, and the last one was a major strike that sparked a huge blaze and sent plumes of smoke into the sky.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

There was no immediate word about casualties or what Israel was targeting, but first responders were attempting to contain the fire.
