Backstory: The community lost its trust in WSFCS leadership, including the 9 folks at the top, the Board of Education.
This last year was particularly rough. After years of chronically neglecting their primary responsibility of financial oversight, the Board of Education failed to realize the budget was overspent by $46 million.
The impact to employees included layoffs, frozen salaries, reduced months, furloughs, benefit loss, and taking on additional responsibilities from the severed employees.
The impact to the students and families included the loss of bus routes, reduced supplies, larger class sizes, school closures, and familiar faces at school.
The narrative of the deficit WSFCS evolved over time, both in the scope and explanation. In the end, the specific cuts made by the Board did not match where the overspending occurred.
Our educators are leaving the district. Our student enrollment is down. How can we heal the district and bring the lost educators and students back to WSFCS?
