In this study, we examine Genesis 38:1–30 — a chapter focusing on Judah and Tamar.
In this passage we see:
• Judah separating from his brothers
• The deaths of Er and Onan
• Tamar denied what was rightfully hers
• Judah’s moral failure
• Tamar’s bold and controversial action
• Judah acknowledging his wrongdoing
• The birth of Perez and Zerah
Genesis 38 does not hide sin or brokenness. It records human failure honestly. Yet even in this complicated and difficult chapter, God’s covenant purposes move forward.
From this line will eventually come King David — and ultimately Christ.
This passage reminds us that God’s promise is not dependent on perfect people. His purposes prevail even through flawed circumstances.
As always, I encourage you to:
• Read the passage carefully for yourself
• Compare Scripture with Scripture
• Seek understanding directly from God’s Word
These studies walk through the text verse by verse. They are not a substitute for your own reading, prayer, and discernment. The authority is Scripture — not the opinions of any teacher.
