I prune and wire my Thuja occidentalis ‘Primo’ bonsai tree. It looked good before doing this maintenance work, but looks better now after removing about 25% of the foliage and slightly adjusting the position of some branches. Also, without doing this periodic work (I do this about once a year), the tree would grow into an unkempt little bush, rather than remain a bonsai.
I said it once, but I’ll say it again: I love this tree and feel this is an excellent cultivar for small bonsai, as I think this tree demonstrates.
