This pre-recorded keynote is part of the "Wisdom and morals" session, presenting new research at the intersection of moral psychology and wisdom science, and addresses at least one of the following questions:
• Some scholars state that morality is irrelevant for wisdom development/expression, as it often comes as an outcome of a life-long process. Others suggest that moral is necessary for wisdom or that moral aspirations are not sufficient for wisdom. What is your perspective on the relationship of morality and wisdom?
• Some suggest that the relationship between wisdom and morality varies depending on the context. In your view, under what conditions do you believe wisdom to be related to morality and how would you characterize this relationship given your position on morality in psychology?
• There is greater consensus among scholars that pursuit of truth is central to a psychological characterization of wisdom compared to other moral features such as realization of shared humanity, compassion or cooperation. Is the wisdom of (scientific) crowd onto something or are they mistaken?
A panel discussion with Dr. Gray and other experts is on Oct 11, 2021. For more info: https://wisdomsummit.uwaterloo.ca/pro...
