Guides, once poachers, lead you on jungle treks to waterfalls, grasslands and mountains that they know well, but few others have seen.

This is Episode 5: The Real Adventure. It`s part of a six episode travel series made from video material shoot back in late 2018 when my friend Frode and I went backpacking in South East Asia for six weeks.

After relaxing on the beautiful Cambodian island of Koh Rogn for some days, it was time do a jungle trekk adventure.
My friend and travel companion Frode was alleready troubbled with a fewer and some very swollen feet after repeated mosquito attacks. So we desides he should rest while I traveled into this Cambodian rain forrest on my own.

Doing reserch ahad of this backpacking trip I had came across this very usful article of Chi Phat and the Cardamom Mountains from a travel blogger called Indietraveller.

and I was very keen on experience this myself. You can arrange a trip by using a tour operater, but I highly recommend you to do as I, and just contact the coummunity your self. That will save you money as well.

After making arrangement throu a copuple of emails, I started my journey to the Cardamon Mountains and Chi Phat from the city of Sihanoukville where i took a local bus towards Koh Kong (if I seem to remember correctly). I got off the bus in the small place "in the middel of nowhere" called Andoung Teuk, just before crossing a bridge.
50 meters east of the bridge ther`s a small resturant, and as arranged on mail I meet a boat driver here. We jumped in the boat and headed up river and into the jungel. We arrivied in the willage of Chi Phat a couple of hours later.
It might sound like a hassle to get there, and it kind of is. But anyone who has ever traveled of the beaten path, knows that if your willig to put in the extra effort of getting somewhere special, you will be rewarded in the end. And belive me, I was.

In the willige I was greeted by a friendly organization employe. We sat down and I picked out the activities for the next days. I spent the first evening in the village and sleept in a guesthouse. The next day I went on a 2 day/1 night jungle trekk with a sleepover in the jungle.

I had an amazing 3 day experience in this rain forrest.
Ecotourism is a responsible way to travel to natural areas like this, and if your ever traveling or backpacking this part of Cambodia, I highly recommend you to make your way to Chi Phat.
