Manuel Tapia, MD, family physician in the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine, has been passionate about public service, social justice and health equity in his career.
He is a staunch advocate for and mentor of underrepresented learners in medicine, from pre-health to medical school. Manuel’s collaborations with various organizations have a transformative impact on the Latinx community. He is the recipient of the 2024 Thomas N. Burbidge Award for Public Service.
“For me, public service is standing outside in the community, getting outside the brick and mortar, and tapping into the wisdom that can be found in the community,” said Manuel, who is the clinical co-director of the Clinica Martin Baro in San Francisco.
The UCSF Founder’s Day Awards celebrate the outstanding service of faculty, staff and learners to the University and to our community in fulfillment of our mission of advancing health worldwide.
