Driving through the Whittier Tunnel (Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel) in Alaska. You literally have to drive through a mountain to get into Whittier. The tunnel closes down every day around 11 pm (in the summer months) and reopens in the morning. Following the posted speed limits, we found that it took about 6-10 minutes to drive completely through the tunnel each way (depending on traffic).
