As parents, we often think of our children as our best friends, sharing family matters, financial struggles, and even conflicts at home, believing they should know everything. But is that really the right approach? While honesty is essential especially when it comes to topics like death. For example, when a loved one passes away, some parents try to protect their children by hiding the truth, saying things like, "Grandpa is away for a long trip," instead of explaining death. But when children eventually find out the truth, they often feel betrayed, confused, and even angry. Instead of avoiding tough conversations, we should help them understand loss and healthily process their emotions. At the same time, making children a confidant for adult problems like marital issues or financial struggles can be overwhelming and stressful for them.

If a parent reacts unfairly or makes a wrong decision, apologizing to their child teaches them the importance of honesty and accountability. They learn that it’s okay to own up to mistakes and grow from them. Parents should be mindful while sharing, so we do not burden them with their problems.
